“Why look so far afield when there is so much close at hand?” If anyone can claim to espouse this piece of wisdom, it is Luisa and August Minikus. Born in eastern Switzerland, they travelled the world from a young age. After completing her training as a hotel assistant, Luisa Minikus spent 10 proud years working for Swissair as a flight attendant while August Minikus, having completed an apprenticeship as a chef on the shores of Lake Constance and spent time working in a number of Swiss resorts, headed for South East Asia, the Philippines and Australia to perfect his culinary skills.
Upon their return to Switzerland, success was not long in coming: together they took over the reins of the “Römerhof” by the city walls of Arbon in spring 1998, lifting the inn to the culinary summit of Switzerland. In 2011, August Minikus became the only chef in Switzerland to be awarded 17 points by the Gault Millau good food guide.
Not one to rest on his laurels, August Minikus has continued to strive for an even greater level of finesse since his arrival at the Mammertsberg, calling on his creativity, passion and the vision of a globetrotter.
